About me and my practice

APPROACH

My therapeutic approach is integrative, meaning that I work from a variety of evidence-based techniques and tailor my approach to each client's unique needs. From Psychodynamic, passing by T.A. Transactional Analysis, Gestalt, Person Centre, Jung, CBT. I use creativity and work using a narrative approach with my clients. I prioritize creating a warm and supportive environment where the therapeutic relationship naturally takes place.

Sessions are delivered in English, Portuguese, or Italian, in your mother tongue.

Intercultural issues with cultural competence, Complex trauma, Adults Abused as a Child. I am a trauma informed trained professional, fully aware of ACE-Adverse Childhood Experiences, gender identity, anxiety and working under the framework for the category of professionals. Working with NEAD , once doctor have been sign posting a referred clients to access therapy and a way to explore it. Bereavement, grief and loss and Couples issues or relationships.

Experience

I work with cultural issues, my practice is cultural competent and I had been trainer in complex trauma, being a trauma informed practitioner from the start, I am also ACE-Adverse Childhood Experience aware and work following the new researches in neuroscience and the positive impact in counselling and psychotherapy, specially after COVID19. I use narrative to contextualize issues that sometimes, traumatized clients find difficult to verbalize. My approach is pluralistic, integrative and lead by the client. I walk with the client respecting their pace but being also aware that therapy is not forever and relating to the economic situation at the present moment. Also that clients need to find value for money, all along the therapeutic process. Considering online an environmental approach, I am happy to be able to delivery sessions confidently and reach clients that sometimes, would not be able to come to a face-to-face session, as the ones living with fibromyalgia, agoraphobia, chronic fatigue.

Sessions are delivered online, assuring discretion and practice. With discounts for students and low cost on an ad hoc basis.

STORYTELLING

The name Avenca was born out of a desire to give the service an image. As a child, I was always fascinated by the beautiful avenca ferns my mother had around the home, by how their delicate translucent leaves interlaced, and by how they thrived in shade rather than direct sunlight.

The avenca represents the fragility, sensitivity, complexities and resilience of the individual; while simultaneously referencing the growing links between psychotherapy and neuroscience.

Initial Consultation

Via Zoom or telephone, I offer half an hour consultation, free of charge, but we need to be agreeable time for client and practitioner.

Fees

From £40 for a set of 12 sessions, to give some time to clients to process and get familiar with the therapeutic process or became aware of different approaches if they have only a type of approach, first.
£35 for students, and£25 for low income on receipt of benefits, with presentation of continued studies and letter from DWP.

When I Work

I work in my practice one day a week and mornings and morning weekends.
Sharing my time between writing, tutoring adults counselling qualification, and working in the education setting.
